WASCO Membership Application Form.pdf

WASCO welcomes membership from one-property owners/managers, multi-property businesses and even to the large agencies.

We invite anyone who has a self-catering business in Wales to join. As a member you will have access to an extensive range of services, support and benefits to help promote and develop your business.

The more members we have the stronger our voice will be heard – unity is the key

Some Good Reasons to Join WASCO

WASCO lobbies on behalf of self-catering on national and local issues, and is generally recognised by consultative bodies, and local and central government, as a respected and effective voice.  Your interests are also represented to the Wales Assembly Government; VisitWales and its Quality & Standards Scheme; the Wales Tourism Alliance, and many more…  WASCO is also a partner in the UK-wide Federation of National Self-Catering Associations.

Major topics in which WASCO has played an important part in representing the interests of self catering businesses over the past few years include:

  1. the UK rules surrounding the Furnished Holiday Lets (HMRC)
  2. the Welsh rules regarding Landlord Registration (WAG)
  3. the rules surrounding Energy Performance Certificates
  4. Non-Domestic Rates for self catering businesses (VOA)
In all that we do, our main aim is to stress the importance of self catering for the (Welsh) economy, to prevent or minimise negative impact of legislation on the running of self catering businesses and to promote all that our members' self catering businesses have to offer visitors to Wales.
Where necessary and possible, WASCO joins forces with other membership bodies, such as the Wales Tourism Alliance, the British Hospitality Association, regional Tourism partnerships, the Federation of Small Businesses and the Country Landowners Association.

Real value for money

Membership starts at literally a few pence a day. Alongside many comparable packages of business services, our costs are extraordinarily low for the benefits offered.

Advice, News and Networking

Our regular WASCO e-newsletter, general meetings and exclusive members’ website keep you informed and in touch throughout the year.  The General Meetings attract members from across Wales providing an opportunity to learn from each other as well as from outside personalities and experts in tourism.

Marketing Channels and Support

For members who wish to advertise on our website, we can boost your bookings 24 hours a day. You have complete control over your Property Page(s) on our popular and well publicised consumer-facing website, www.walescottages.co.uk. We promote the Wales Cottages brand and website on your behalf throughout the year, via Search Engine Optimisation and other marketing tools.

Members have the right to use the WASCO logo to add prestige and quality assurance to their branding.

Discounted Supplies

Where possible, we shall try to negotiate discounts for our members with local and national suppliers, but it is an area that still needs further development.

Independent Membership

Membership starts at a very modest subscription rate of £30 per year for owners with just one property. (You can choose to add a web page at any time – from £50)

Ordinary Members without a web page entry still get the full range of advice, industry representation, events and networking opportunities, supplier discounts and support from industry experts.

Agency Membership

Agency Membership is available to businesses that manage self-catering properties for other people but who are still able to offer a direct and personal service.  Please contact the Membership Secretary for further details on Agency Membership. Web pages for Agencies display in each of the marketing areas they represent

Website advertising

Please note, advertising on our exclusive members only website at www.walescottages.co.uk (which has a very high search engine ranking) is now available to ALL members. However, though not a pre-requisite WASCO continues to recommend having  a Quality Assurance grading to the UK common standard, such as that run by VisitWales, or quality graded by the AA. Acknowledgement of that grade (or none) will be shown on the property page.
